NewsMarch 1, 2007: patsy monk created a postcard map of the world which was auctioned on eBay to benefit Greenpeace. She began by projecting a map of the world onto silk fabric donated by Valrie Massey, a photographer and artist friend. ![]() She painted a thin line of a water-soluble resist to separate the continents from the oceans; then she painted the land masses and oceans separately using silk paints. ![]() After heat-setting the paint, she prepared and quilted the fabric and marked it into 4" x 6" rectangles for postcards. ![]()
![]() Once she cut the cards apart, she sent them in envelopes to artists all over the world, who signed them, added personal sayings, and returned them in the mail ![]() Upon their return, the cards were reassembled and auctioned to raise money for Greenpeace. ![]()
